Ewa (Eva) Kasinska
I am an enthusiastic and devoted (Ontario Certified) Teacher, in the area of Intermediate and Senior Mathematics.
After 26 years of active classroom experience and 5 years as vice-principal and principal of a private school, I am now focusing on private tutoring. I am eager to devote my high energy to the cultivation of students' mathematical progress. Having spent years in private schools I worked closely with individual students helping them boost their confidence in the subject, become high achievers in mathematics competitions, or overcome math related anxieties. I continue to be motivated by the challenges and talents of each young person. My genuine love of the subject allows me to broaden each topic with historical connections, anecdotes, and enrichment opportunities. Three of my former students are now mathematics teachers and attribute their career choice, in part, to my example.
My guidance work equipped me with a solid understanding of the Ontario curriculum in all subject areas. As such, I advise families on course selections for high school planning and post-secondary admission purposes.
My administrative experience exposed me to working closely in the design and implementation of individualized education plans. I understand the language of psycho-educational assessments and know how best to implement recommendations for students with a wide range of learning exceptionalities.
Current assessment and evaluation policies tend to overwhelm students and parents alike. My proficiency with the Ministry of Education and Board guidelines lead me to become a presenter at the annual OAME conference in May 2013 discussing how these policies relate to mathematics. And administering the annual grade 10 EQAO Literacy Test involved me in running sessions focusing on all aspects of basic literacy skills.
Always eager to increase my knowledge, I am proficient in the technology currently used in mathematics courses, be it the graphing calculators, computer software, or interactive whiteboards.
